The Buchholz French Club
is an organization which gives students a chance to meet with other
students who share a common interest in the French culture. We try to
stage events which are culturally enriching but also entertaining and fun.
Some of our annual activities include:
Meetings: Once a
month we have a meeting with a different focus. Parties include a
Toussaint Costume Party, a Christmas Fondue Party, a Mardi Gras party
featuring Cajun food, a French cheese and movie party(with subtitles),
and an end of the year Banquet where Awards are given.
-
Congrés:
Each Spring French participates in the state French competition.
Our team has always done well, and in recent years we have placed first
in the 4A category, and 3rd in the entire state.
-
Immersion:
February is the month of our annual French Immersion, held at Camp
Crystal Lake. Immersion is a weekend of speaking French, eating
French food, and learning about French and francophare cultures.
There are skits and guest speakers, as well as a campfire and
marshmallow roast.
-
National French
Exam: The National French Exam is an annual test that students
taking French may choose to participate in. The test is not
mandatory, but we often have a good number of people sign up. The
students do very well on the exam, and former test takers have placed as
high as third in the nation in their category, with many others placing
well in the state.
-
Banquet and French
Honor Society inductions: a chance to wrap up the year's events
and recognize new members of the French Honor Society.
-
Membership: Open to anyone, including Non-French students
(students not taking French)
-
-
The club usually meets
once a month, and our cultural experiences always include lots of great
food and fun. Members need not be enrolled in any French class to join!
There is only one requirement for membership, and that is a willingness
to have fun and learn more about French language and
culture.
